Worked on irrigation to the camps shambas (farms) today. Lots of digging holes to lay piles, some construction of pipes and then covered them back in the ground. A first for me, but they said "well done, JennIfer". Hopefully this will keep the seedlings alive. The government gave word that water meters were ago for the camp, i.e. less use of borehole and more water for all. We have to copy the correct paperwork and then turn it in to way too many offices for the proper stamps. We will need to may 6,000 Ksh (about $6.00) sounds like nothing-but it really is. We decide to split the costs to have community ownership. The meters should be placed in about two weeks. The meters will turn on the pumps that the government provides a while ago and water will begin to flow.
Days can be frustrating, as process is always slow from camp members and the government. Oh, yeah and the stares of awe/ giggles at a muzungu doing manual labour. According to them we all use a click for everything and drive flying cars.
